Lurleen is a fair-skinned, blue-eyed 4th-generation Texan who
was successfully treated for squamous cell carcinoma in 2011. Because of this, Lurleen hopes to increase awareness of the serious effects of blistering sunburns experienced during childhood. Besides The Shade Project she also co-hosts the Dr. Dan Radio Show, juggles many creative projects—like singing and writing—and is a mother to 2 children and 3 dogs.
Kristen is a St. Louis native, University of Missouri grad and
melanoma survivor who left her marketing career in San Diego and relocated to Austin to pursue her passion for melanoma awareness with The Shade Project. Kristen loves connecting with fellow cancer survivors and caregivers through public speaking and community outreach, and she hopes her story will inspire others to be sun safe and protect their skin.
